Top Lane AP Fighter · The Hallowed Seamstress.

Abilities Overview

Gwen's passive, Thousand Cuts, deals bonus magic damage equal to a percentage of the target's maximum HP on each auto attack. Against monsters, the damage cap is significantly higher, making her a strong duelist and objective taker. Her Q (Snip Snip) rapidly snips in a cone with the final snip dealing true damage based on the passive stacks applied. Building up the full four-snip stack before unleashing Q is the core mechanic.

W (Hallowed Mist) creates a protective zone that makes Gwen untargetable from enemies outside it. If she leaves the zone, the effect ends — positioning inside Hallowed Mist is critical in trades. E (Skip 'n Slash) is a short dash that empowers Gwen's next three autos with bonus range, attack speed, and on-hit damage. R (Needlework) fires a series of needles that slow and deal damage, with each subsequent cast firing more needles.

Laning Phase

Gwen is a scaling top laner who struggles early but becomes a monster late. Play safely before level 6 — use E to farm from distance and W to disengage enemy trades. At level 6, look for trades when your opponent's key cooldowns are down. The ideal all-in is E-aa-Q-aa chain with R stacked between auto attacks.

Manage your E cooldown carefully — without it, you're immobile and vulnerable to jungle ganks. Control wards are essential to maintain vision on the river. Against aggressive laners (Renekton, Darius), use W preemptively to deny their engage and farm safely.

Teamfighting

Gwen excels in extended fights where she can stack passive on multiple targets. In teamfights, position around your W carefully — staying inside the mist makes you invulnerable to enemy backline damage while you shred the frontline. Use R's slow to help your team catch enemies or disengage from bad fights.

With Riftmaker fully stacked, Gwen's healing in prolonged fights is incredible. Focus on the enemy frontline — your percent-HP damage and true damage from Q shred tanks rapidly. She struggles against teams that can kite and disengage (Janna, Lulu, Zilean) since she has limited gap close after E.

Build Path

Start Doran's Ring or Doran's Shield. Rush Riftmaker for the omnivamp and ramping damage — this is Gwen's core mythic. Nashor's Tooth is essential for the attack speed and on-hit AP damage synergy. Rabadon's Deathcap for the massive AP scaling on Q and passive.

Zhonya's Hourglass provides armor and a stasis active for teamfight survivability. Cosmic Drive for ability haste and movespeed. Void Staff against magic resist stacking. Boots are Sorcerer's Shoes or Mercury Treads. Spirit Visage against heavy AP comps amplifies Riftmaker healing.

Matchups

Gwen scales well into most matchups. She struggles against early-game lane bullies (Renekton, Darius, Tryndamere) who can punish her weak early levels. Against ranged tops, max E second for more mobility uptime. Her scaling means even losing lane by 20 CS, she becomes a threat at two items.
