The Hand of Noxus. Hemorrhage stack management, Apprehend hook range, and Noxian Guillotine reset teamfight chains.
Top Lane Bruiser · The Hand of Noxus.
Darius's passive, Hemorrhage, is the core of his kit — each auto attack or damaging ability stacks a bleed on enemies. At 5 stacks, Darius becomes enraged, granting massive bonus AD and applying the max bleed stack instantly. His Q (Decimate) deals damage in a circle around him, healing for each enemy hit by the blade's edge. Landing the outer edge is crucial for maximum damage and sustain in trades.
W (Crippling Strike) resets your auto attack timer and slows the target — use it immediately after an auto for burst damage. E (Apprehend) pulls all enemies in a cone and slows them, acting as both engage and peel. R (Noxian Guillotine) is a true damage execute that resets on kill — landing the dunk resets the cooldown and mana cost, enabling multi-kill teamfight chains.
Darius dominates most melee matchups in lane. At level 1, Q start lets you win early trades by hitting the blade edge. Look for level 2 all-ins with Q and W — auto-W-auto-Q is a devastating trade pattern that applies 4 bleed stacks instantly. Against ranged opponents, rush boots and use E to pull them into your range.
Ghost is the optimal summoner spell to stay on top of enemies. Flash is essential for E-flash engages. Post-6, your kill pressure is immense — any enemy at 40% HP is in Noxian Guillotine range. Control wards in the bush give you vision control for E engages.
Darius is a front-line juggernaut who excels in extended teamfights. Your goal is to stack Hemorrhage on the frontline, then dunk the low-HP target for the reset. With each dunk reset, you can reposition and chain to the next target. The key is patience — let the fight develop before committing your E and R.
Position yourself between the enemy frontline and backline. Use E to disrupt enemy engages or pull overextended carries out of position. Against heavy poke comps, consider Ghost + Dead Man's Plate to close the gap. Flash-R is a powerful pick combo for catching carries out of position.
Start Doran's Blade or Doran's Shield against hard matchups. Stridebreaker is the optimal mythic — the active slow helps Darius stick to targets. Sterak's Gage provides massive survivability and damage synergy. Dead Man's Plate and Force of Nature round out the tanky core with movespeed and resistances.
Black Cleaver is strong against armor-stacking opponents. Death's Dance provides damage delay and healing. Boots are Plated Steelcaps against AD or Mercury Treads against AP/CC. In prolonged games, consider Gargoyle Stoneplate for the massive shield.
Darius wins extended trades against most melee champions. He struggles against ranged tops (Vayne, Quinn, Teemo) who kite him, and against mobile duelists (Fiora, Riven, Jax) who can dodge Q blade edge. Against hard matchups, rush Dead Man's Plate and look for Ghost-powered all-ins.
