Thresh Abilities Overview

Thresh's passive, Damnation, collects souls from dead enemies, permanently granting armor and ability power. Death Sentence (Q) throws a hook that stuns the first enemy hit; reactivating pulls Thresh to the target. Dark Passage (W) throws a lantern that shields the nearest ally and can be clicked by an ally to pull them to Thresh — one of the best save tools in the game. Flay (E) passively empowers auto-attacks with magic damage; actively, it knocks enemies in a direction or slows them. The Box (R) creates a pentagon of spectral walls that slow by 99% and deal damage when broken. For full details, check the LoL Fandom Thresh page.

Thresh Laning Phase

Thresh is one of the most oppressive laners when played well. Use Q to create pressure — even missing hooks zone enemies. The threat of your hook is as valuable as landing it. W is a powerful trading tool; throw it to your ADC when they take damage to shield them. E passive makes your auto-attacks hit hard in early trades. Level 2 is a big spike — engage with E+Q+ignite for first blood potential. Against enchanters, play aggressive. Against engage supports (Leona, Nautilus), hold E to interrupt their gap-closers. Thresh Teamfighting

Thresh is a versatile teamfighter who can play both offensive and defensive roles. In teamfights, your primary job is to peel for your carries with E and R. Use The Box to zone enemies or trap them in an area — the 99% slow is devastating. W (lantern) is the most impactful save; use it to pull allies out of danger or bring them into key positions. Q is a pick tool — look for hooks on out-of-position enemies before objectives. Against dive compositions, hold E for disengage and use R to protect your backline. Against poke compositions, use Q to catch overaggressive enemies.

Thresh Build Path

Core items for Thresh include Locket of the Iron Solari for AoE shielding, Zeke's Convergence to empower your ADC's damage, and Knight's Vow to redirect damage from your carry. Redemption provides team-wide healing and poke. Mikael's Blessing cleanses CC from carries. Thornmail or Frozen Heart for armor. Boots are Mobility Boots for roaming or Mercury's Treads for tenacity. Runes: Guardian (keystone), Font of Life, Bone Plating, Unflinching, with Biscuit Delivery and Cosmic Insight secondary for summoner spell uptime.

Thresh Matchups

Thresh excels against immobile enchanters (Janna, Lulu, Soraka) where his hook creates kill pressure. He struggles against tank supports with point-and-click engage like Leona, Nautilus, and Alistar — they can engage through your peel. Against mage supports (Zyra, Brand, Lux), outplay their skill shots with lantern mobility and hook their positioning mistakes. ADC matchup matters too: Thresh pairs well with aggressive ADCs like Draven, Kalista, and Lucian who can follow up on hooks. Find more matchup details on the LoL Fandom guide.
