Top Lane Fighter · The Blade Dancer.

Abilities Overview

Irelia's Q (Bladesurge) is the heart of her kit — it dashes to a target, dealing physical damage and fully resetting if the target dies or is marked. Mastering Q resets on minions is the key to Irelia's mobility. Her passive, Ionian Fervor, stacks up to 4 times with ability hits on champions, granting massive attack speed and on-hit magic damage — always reach max stacks before committing to a fight.

W (Defiant Dance) reduces physical damage by up to 50% while channeling, then releases a burst of damage. It can be reactivated early — use it to block burst or tower shots. E (Flawless Duet) places two blades that converge and stun enemies hit — the setup for Q resets and all-ins. R (Vanguard's Edge) fires a wall of blades that marks enemies and slows, setting up Q resets on all marked targets.

Laning Phase

Irelia has a strong level 1 if she lands E. Q to a low-HP ranged minion for the reset, then Q onto the enemy, stack passive with autos, and Q away to safety. Level 2 with Q+E is a powerful spike. Level 6 is a massive powerspike — R onto the enemy marks them for Q resets, E for stun, and keep Qing through the target.

Wave management is critical for Irelia. Manipulate minion HP to create Q reset opportunities. Against ranged opponents, trade aggressively when passive is stacked and look for all-ins at level 6. Control wards in the river protect against ganks — Irelia is vulnerable when Q is on cooldown.

Teamfighting

Irelia is a diver who excels at taking over teamfights through mobility. Start by stacking passive on the frontline, then use R to mark the backline and Q through targets for resets. Each Q reset heals Irelia and allows her to weave through the enemy team like a dancer.

Position on the flank before fights to look for R-Q-Q all-ins on the enemy carry. Save W to block burst damage when diving. If the enemy team has heavy CC, wait for key abilities to be used before committing. Irelia falls off against coordinated teams that peel for their carries.

Build Path

Start Doran's Blade. Blade of the Ruined King is the absolute first item — the slow active and percent-HP damage are essential. Trinity Force for spellblade damage and movespeed. Sterak's Gage for survivability in extended fights.

Death's Dance provides damage delay and healing. Guardian Angel for insurance. Wit's End against heavy AP. Hullbreaker for split-push pressure. Boots are Plated Steelcaps or Mercury Treads. Ravenous Hydra for waveclear when split-pushing.

Matchups

Irelia excels against immobile melee champions who can't escape her Q resets. She struggles against Jax (E blocks all autos), Fiora (W parries her E), and Renekton (Rage burst out-trades her). Against hard matchups, play safe, farm with Q, and look for roams mid.
